The Faith We Profess

"As in the day of our Baptism, when our whole life was entrusted to the 'standard of teaching,' let us embrace the Creed of our live-giving faith. To say the Credo with faith is to enter into communion with God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and also with the whole Church which transmits its faith to us and in whose midst we believe." -Catechism of the Catholic Church, 197

The 12 articles of faith are the chief truths taught by Jesus Christ through the Catholic Church in the Apostle's Creed. This Creed is called the Apostle's Creed, not because it was written by the apostles but because it is a faithful summary of the apostle's faith and teaching.

The 12 Articles of Faith

  1. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
  2. I believe in Jesus Christ, His Only Son, our Lord.
  3. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and was born of the Virgin Mary.
  4. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
  5. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again.
  6. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father Almighty.
  7. From thence He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.
  8. I believe in the Holy Spirit.
  9. I believe in the Holy Catholic Church.
  10. I believe in the forgiveness of sins.
  11. I believe in the resurrection of the body.
  12. I believe in the life everlasting.
